BBC – Nut hunt locates dormice habitats

Dormice habitats can be identified by discarded hazel nut shells

People in Wiltshire have been helping the county’s wildlife trust locate populations of hazel dormice.

A Great Nut Hunt was held at Morgan’s Vale and Woodfalls Hall where people were taught how to spot hazel nut shells discarded by the mice.

“We are especially keen on records from Wiltshire where we currently have very few,” said the Trust’s Diane Nicolle.

  • Salisbury Journal – Help track down dormice

    WILTSHIRE Wildlife Trust is asking people to help locate populations of hazel dormice in the county.

    The trust is holding a free event called Warning: May Contain Nuts on Saturday, as part of the National Dormouse Monitoring Programme, which celebrates its 21st anniversary this year.

    The trust and the New Forest National Park Authority are jointly holding the event to encourage people to get involved and carry out surveys here in Wiltshire.
